Jeff Bezos

Another business magnate. Have you heard of Amazon? Of course you have. It’s the largest online retailer in the world. Being Founder AND Ceo of this multi-billion dollar company has given Jeff the 4th spot in the world’s richest, at a $59.8 billion dollar net worth.

As a child, the young Jeff spent his summers working his grandfather’s farm in Texas. This is where his unbreakable work ethic took root. As he grew older, he began to illustrate a passion for technology.

Bezos’s revolutionary career did not begin with online retail. In 2000, his mind gave birth to Blue Origin. The company’s mission was to make commercial spaceflight viable. It continues to work towards that goal today.

With a company worth over $250 billion, he better have some crazy vision and good intuition about how to do business. And wow, does he. Bezos was one of the first investors in Google (he invested a quarter-million dollars in 1998).

Not only is Jeffrey’s business presence one of the best and biggest in the world, but so are his philanthropic efforts. Although seemingly insignificant when compared to the $28 billion dollar donation (1/2 net worth) from Bill Gates to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bezos gives back in his own ways. He hasn’t yet signed The Giving Pledge, but has funded projects such as:

  • Bezos Center for Innovation
  • Recovery of the Apollo 11 mission’s rocket engines
  • Bezos Center for Neural Circuit Dynamics
  • Bezos Family FOundation
  • Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center

Well that’s all for today, folks! Come back tomorrow for more world gamechangers and insight on the amazing world around us.

Larry Ellison

Founder of Oracle. Net worth: $50.3 billion. College drop out. #7 richest man in the world.

Larry Ellison, born in 1966, is an American entrepreneur who currently serves as executive chairman and CTO of Oracle Corp. He is currently 71 years old, and lives in Woodside, CA.

Ellison dropped out of college twice, from both the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois. He moved to California in between his two attempts at University. Ironic that later in his life (2006), he’d become the richest man in California.

Check out the documentary below:

Ellison is one of 128 billionaires to have signed “The Giving Pledge” that commits the members of the group to donating at least 1/2 of their net worth to philanthropy.
